Islamic and South Asian Coins workshop - Manchester Museum and the SSN for Islamic Art and Material Culture



All are welcome to Manchester Museum’s upcoming half-day workshop on Islamic and South Asian coins, taking place Thursday 28thSeptember from 1.30-5pm, in the Collections Study Centre (3rd floor). This event is held in collaboration with the SSN for Islamic art and material culture and the Money and Medals Network.


The workshop will provide an introduction to the history and development of Islamic and South Asian coinage, as well as an overview of best practice for storage and display of coins and some insights into Manchester Museum’s recent research and cataloguing project with Islamic and South Asian coins (funded by the John Ellerman Foundation). The workshop is suitable for those who are completely new to this subject, as well as for numismatics curators who specialise in other disciplines, or Islamic art professionals who would like to learn more about coins.


Afternoon refreshments are provided. The workshop is free to attend, and bursaries towards travel to attend are available by application to the SSN.
